Prenatal Breastfeeding Class

Each mother and her baby have innate connection response that make for their ideal breastfeeding "technique". Facilitated by Certified Lactation Consultant, Anita Arora, for this prenatal breastfeeding class will help you understand your baby's biological needs right from birth and how meeting those needs will facilitate increased breastfeeding success and parenting confidence.

What to expect to learn:

  • how to establish a connection to your baby right from the beginning
  • how skin to skin contact helps establish breastfeeding
  • where does breastmilk come from and how to ensure a great supply
  • the essentials of knowing how to express breastmilk
  • what is 'normal' newborn breastfeeding behaviour
  • establishing a latch and positioning your baby at the breast
  • understanding the relationship between happy babies and full tummies
  • what the role of partners in the breastfeeding relationship what to do in special situations (jaundice, hypoglycemia, weight loss)
  • where to get support
  • ask questions and get answers!

Women who are supported by their partners are more successful with breastfeeding, so we encourage parents to attend the class together.

Childbirth Without Fear

Stemming from the philosophies of Dr. Grantly Dick-Read and his Fear / Tension / Pain Cycle, we will explore how movement, tension and our fears affect our reactions to pain in childbirth and the labour process itself. This workshop will give you tools on how to identify your fears, work with them and tame them - emotionally and physically. Facilitated by Owner and Birth Doula, Lorri Fleming and The WOMB Doula Team.

Preparing for a VBAC or Caesarean Birth

Preparing to have a vaginal birth after a caesearean (VBAC) carries with it many emotions and new options for parents-to-be. So many unknowns may be swirling through your mind, maybe causing fear and making you feel helpless. Learn all the options available to you - whether you birth by VBAC or Caesarean birth - how to prepare your body physically, and your mind and spirit emotionally for whatever may come. This workshop is facilitated by Naturopath, Dr. Amy Dobbie, and WOMB Birth Doulas, Angie Stenback and Deb Brintnell.

Preparing to Birth: Your Pelvic Floor & More

Today's common birthing practices are changing in order to support and prevent rampant pelvic problems. Join Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, Dr. Sinead Dufour and Midwifery Student, Sequoya Bartrem to prepare you to "breath your baby down" and help prevent prolapse and perineal tearing.

Practical Birth & Prenatal Prep

This class will give you some great practical hands on birth tips and tricks for every stage of your birth. Taught by our experienced and amazing WOMB Doulas.

You'll also learn how can a Doula reduce fear and pain, and increase confidence, peace and love in the birthing room. How a Doula can help your partner be more confident and supportive?

Come and ask your burning questions related to your pregnancy, birth and parenting!

Acupressure & Massage for Labour & Birth

This workshop will focus on teaching you and your birth partner practical hands-on massage and acupressure techniques that can be used to support you throughout your pregnancy and in preparation for your birth. This workshop will be facilitated by Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Emily Casey, and Registered Massage Therapist, Brooke Tkach. Bring your partner, grab a tea, and we will teach you how to reduce tension in your body and relax into your labour and birth!

What to expect:

  • Demonstrations and time for hands-on practice of a variety of massage techniques and acupressure points that can be used prior to and during childbirth for reducing anxiety/fear, encouraging effective contractions, relieving pain, and more.
  • Focus on increasing your birth partner’s confidence in these techniques so they can be a supportive companion and feel involved in the birthing process.• Learn the benefits of massage and acupuncture for common pregnancy concerns, birth preparation, and more.•
  • Receive a cheat sheet with descriptions of all the techniques discussed during the workshop!

Couples Prenatal Yoga 

Connection - the essence of life and relationship - feed yourself, your partner and your partnership in this wonderful 75 minute yoga class.

Come stretch and relax with your partner in this nurturing and easy going class.  We will learn supportive positions for the growing belly leading up to labour and during early labour, visualization and breathing techniques, and stretch and massage - for both of you.  Limited to 8 couples, suitable for all levels.

Using Essential Oils for Pregnancy, Birth & Postpartum

Join us for an intimate and inspiring essential oils class focusing on uses for labour, birth and postpartum. Learn how to use essential oils safely and effectively during your pregnancy journey and beyond. Class participants will receive information on quality, how to use the oils, blends specific to pregnancy, take home handouts with recipes and take home mama blend as a special treat. Class will be led by Geralyn Power, a former police officer turned wellness junkie.

Understanding Infant Sleep Prenatal Workshop 

This group workshop is designed for expectant parents who would like to educate themselves on normal infant sleep behaviour, manage their expectations before baby's arrival and gain insight on how to navigate common sleep challenges. This workshop includes: 

  • Full newborn sleep education addressing the neurological, biological and behavioural components of sleep
  • Suggestions for creating the optimal sleep environment
  • Instruction on newborn calming and soothing techniques
